Topic Records celebrates its 80th anniversary in 2019 as the oldest independent record label in the world. 

 

Folk in Focus at Cecil Sharp House

Topic Records: Folk in Focus is an absorbing exhibition of iconic photographs from the Topic Records archive focusing on the seminal artists who’ve helped shape contemporary folk music as we know it. The exhibition includes era-defining shots of Anne Briggs, Shirley & Dolly Collins, The Watersons, Nic Jones, June Tabor, Martin Simpson, Eliza and Martin Carthy, Peggy Seeger, Ewan MacColl and many more.

Featuring photographs by Brian Shuel, John Harrison, Judith Burrows, Dave Peabody, Elly Lucas, Eammon O’Doherty and George Van Win.

This exhibition is part of the Topic at 80 celebrations at Cecil Sharp House, taking place throughout the year.

Vision & Revision : The First 80 Year Of Topic Records

Must-have double 2 CD/double vinyl compilation finds the cream of British folk music revisiting songs from the treasure trove of Topic’s back catalogue

As part of its 80th anniversary celebrations, Topic have also released a landmark album, ‘Vision & Revision: The First 80 Years Of Topic Records’ - a deluxe double CD and gatefold vinyl of the cream of British folk artists interpreting a song of their choice from Topic’s vast back catalogue. Includes 20 newly recorded, never-before-released tracks by Martin Simpson, Richard Thompson, Lankum, Peggy Seeger, John Smith, Sam Lee, Martin Carthy, Olivia Chaney, Lisa O’Neill, Oysterband, Nancy Kerr, Chris Wood, Josienne Clarke & Ben Walker, Lisa Knapp, Kitty Macfarlane, Sam Kelly & The Lost Boys, Emily Portman & Rob Harbron, Rachael McShane & The Cartographers, Eliza Carthy & Olivia Chaney and The Oldham Tinkers.

This double album comes in CD and vinyl formats, both housed in a special deluxe, debossed, silver foil-blocked gatefold sleeve. The vinyl issue is limited to 1000 copies only. A digital version of the album is also available.
