Album Review - Carys: ´Max the Pirate Cat & Friends´

Max the Pirate Cat & Friends is the third solo album from singer-songwriter Carys

Utilizing her endearing and eccentric songwriting style, in this album Carys delivers quirky tales of the adventures of pirate cats, parrots and salty dogs!
Entwined with obscure wit and a vivid imagination, the songs are filled with a curious humour which will entertain children and adults alike. It´s a bit like Mary Poppins introducing a cartoon animal version of Pirates of the Caribbean.

The CD comes with a lyric booklet, so you´ve no excuse for not singing along. It´s also accompanied with some charming illustrations created by Carys herself. I think this album is going to be a big hit with the kids in the car, I suspect "bring me the treasure" might stick as a catch phrase. For me, the track Barrett the Parrot had me laughing out loud, quite a character!

Musically it´s hard to categorise, definitely more kids / comedy / musical theatre than serious folk, but it is all good fun and you even get a quirky hornpipe instrumental in the middle. Carys describes her album as folk/rock music for cat lovers and the big kid in all of us… And through this she is certainly carving herself an interesting niche!

Unique, entertaining, and beautifully bizarre; we´ve never come across anything quite like it.
