International All-Star Female Line-Up for True North Music’s free March Lockdown Livestream
Featuring Americana, Folk, Roots and Country from
Sierra Hull, Hannah Read, Isa Burke & Caitlin Canty
Independent music promoter True North Music is hosting another Free Lockdown Livestream on Saturday 13th March, featuring a line-up of acclaimed female folk and roots artists, in celebration of International Women’s Day earlier that week. The concert will be live streamed on Facebook and YouTube, with performances from Sierra Hull, Hannah Read, Caitlin Canty and Isa Burke, who between them range across folk, Americana, bluegrass, acoustic country and more.
Still only 29, renowned singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Sierra Hull has hit more milestones than many musicians accomplish in a lifetime. Making her Grand Ole Opry debut at the age of 10 alongside Alison Krauss, the virtuoso mandolinist landed a deal with Rounder Records aged just 13. Sierra has performed and toured worldwide with her own band and alongside numerous renowned artists. She released her acclaimed fourth album 25 Trips in February 2020, and the song Ceiling to the Floor was nominated for a 2021 Grammy Award, joining her 2017 Grammy nomination.
Hannah Read is a versatile Scottish fiddler, guitarist and songwriter. Her latest solo album Way Out I’ll Wander drew comparisons with the likes of Sandy Denny and Joni Mitchell, and weaves in influences from both sides of the Atlantic. Hannah was also part of the critically acclaimed British folk supergroup Songs of Separation, Album of the Year winners at the 2017 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. She has recorded and performed with many notable artists including Kris Drever, Sarah Jarosz, Jefferson Hamer and Julie Fowlis.
Isa Burke is primarily known for being one-third of the American folk-rock band Lula Wiles. Equally talented as a singer, songwriter and instrumentalist (on guitar, fiddle and clawhammer banjo) Isa’s magnificent singing, instrumental chops and razor-sharp lyrics form a potent combination. She grew up immersed in a thriving traditional music community in Maine, and has collaborated with acclaimed artists including Session Americana and Rose Cousins.
Caitlin Canty is an exceptional American singer-songwriter, whose music carves an evocative line through folk, blues, and country ballads, featuring her haunting voice and spare, expressive guitar. Caitlin´s song Get Up was nominated for Song of the Year in Folk Alliance’s International Music Awards, and her latest album Motel Bouquet was produced by Grammy-winning Noam Pikelny (Punch Brothers) and features a crack band of some of Nashville’s finest acoustic musicians.
The concert will be live streamed on True North Music Facebook page and the True North Music YouTube channel and will be available for free, with donations welcome.
Maria Wallace (True North Music) usually books UK tours for American and Canadian roots artists and hosts her own Yorkshire music series, winning Yorkshire Gig Guide’s Outstanding Promoter Award in 2017. Her regular bluegrass, Americana and folk gigs in Huddersfield and Sheffield have been well-supported by local and regional music fans for five years, before the pandemic brought live music to a halt. A recent grant from Arts Council England’s Project Grants fund has helped support a three-part series of livestreamed concerts, including this March event.
