Amelia Coburn Autumn Tour

Amelia Coburn Autumn Tour

Another chance this year to catch the marvellous Amelia Coburn on tour!

BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards Finalist and UKE Magazine Breakthrough Artist winner and now English Folk Expo Mentor Scheme participant Amelia Coburn hit the ground runnning in 2022 with a sold out debut headline tour of the UK and an EP of new original material that received national airplay. She is currently rounding off a string of UK and European festival dates including Cambridge Folk Festival, Austrian Ukulele Festival and headlinging at the inaugural Belfast Ukulele festival.

This Autumn she continues on her mission to take her gothic-folk tales across the UK with dates that include supports for Annie Dressner. Even more chances to catch both of these fantastic performers live in intimate surroundings.

Amelia is a truly stunning solo performer who bears comparisons to Joni Mitchell, Kate Bush and Nick Drake with beguiling original folk and jazz influenced songs (many of which have received national airplay on 6music, BBC Radio 2 and RTE1 in Ireland - she can count Mark Radcliffe and Tom Robinson as big fans) who has performed at Costa Del Folk in Ibiza, Grand Northern Ukulele Festival and numerous other events including sell out solo shows in her native North East and elsewhere as well as supporting a diverse range of artists including The Wedding Present, Steve Harley and the late folk legend Vin Garbutt. Amelia is fast establishing herself as a truly distinctive voice not to be missed.

Since being nominated (and chosen as a finalist) for the BBC Young Folk Awards, Teesside´s Amelia Coburn has travelled the world as part of her language studies and performance commitments. Extended stays in France, Mexico and Russia have informed her beguiling original songs which draw on European folk and jazz influences. Although initially known for her exquisite intepretations of less-travelled new wave and pop songs from the likes of The Specials, Kate Bush, Elton John and Sparks she has taken some of this energy and artfulness into her own songs and particularly in her highly lyrical, narrative style and subject matter. From vengeful widows, sleep paralysis, mutinous pirates and Mexican street food to poetic tales of bittersweet romance and more, she is not your run-of-the-mill writer and her gift for melody and storytelling lyrics is world class.

Honing her natural performance skills at a variety of events too such as Cambridge Folk Festival, Costa Del Folk in Ibiza, a truly stunning debut at the Grand Northern Ukulele Festival (search it on youtube!) and other ukulele-centric events in Belgium, Czech Republic and France as well as her own sell out solo shows around her native North East plus support and shared performances with acts as diverse as Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel, the late, great Vin Garbutt and Indie noise legends The Wedding Present (Her cover of their classic "My Favourite Dress" is songwriter David Gedge´s favourite cover). Branching out, stylistically with recent releases and picking up a stick dulcmer for her psychedelic, tribal stomp "Perfect Storm", which received a good deal of national airplay in the UK, she is a fearless experimenter yet manages to retain her folk and jazz roots throughout. Another recent single, "Dublin Serenade" also received national airplay in the UK and Ireland, while her most recent, the fun, jazzy "Cheese Song" is a live favourite and featured members of Madrid-based Track Dogs. In all Amelia takes a fresh look at familiar influences and infuses them with her playful personality but also finds haunted corners to explore making her a unique voice in the world of folk music.

With new material released through 2022 and a debut original album in production Amelia is, in the words of Mark Radcliffe “A voice of the future”.
