Coming up from Tuned In London

Coming up from Tuned In London

Tuned In London have three fantastic events coming up over the next few weeks!

- Friday 9th June - Cider With Kirsty - London Album Launch Special at The Finnish Church, Rotherhithe

Between stories of wreckers and smugglers, midwives and hedge-witches, snake-catchers & nightmen, the new Cider With Kirsty trio reveal the hidden lives that were the historic heartbeat of the country. Originally meeting through folk legends Show of Hands, The Ciderhouse Rebellion, who’ve cooked up a bit of a storm in just three years with five albums, multiple FATEA awards and sensational live sets, found that their creation of seascapes and laments, prayers and evocations dance perfectly with Kirsty Merryn’s poignant and angelic vocals. Their resulting album The Devil’s on the Mast (releasing in May) recorded over a winter’s week in the depths of the Yorkshire moors, is a dynamic, enrapturing set of uniquely magical songs.

- Thursday 22nd June - Midsummer Special: Sagrada Família - ´Sumaq Ayllu´ at City Hope Church, Bermondsey

Sagrada Familia (Sacred Family), passionately transmit and share the music of their ancient high mountain homelands, fostering a message of harmony, gratitude & unity. A Latin American music trio in which we find Kanti Qena (Peru) and Phaxsi Coca (Bolivia), of Lokandes renown, a ground-breaking Andean fusion band, performing with their London-born son Raymi Willka. Brought up steeped in his Andean heritage, Raymi is fast developing his own version of the virtuoso musicianship of his parents. Expect a magical, ritualistic evening for midsummer. A cash bar will be serving drinks and Latin American snacks.

- Wednesday 12th July - Namvula at City Hope Church, Bermondsey

Namvula effortlessly weaves together a global soundscape that takes inspiration from the deep grooves of Africa, the lyrical sensibility of folk-pop and the improvisational freedom of jazz. Born in southern Africa to Zambian and Scottish parents, her music reflects the realities, nuances and complexities of a diasporic restlessness. Set to release her third compilation of work this year, we’ll be the first London audience to hear these new songs. Our common humanity in these distressed times is her preoccupation. She is “A true original…a soulful performer” * * * * The Guardian
