Copper Viper in London

Copper Viper will be performing at London’s renowned folk venue Green Note this month

Since the release of their debut album "Cut It Down, Count The Rings" in April 2019, London-based folk/bluegrass duo Copper Viper have had a busy old time.  After a packed summer festival season in 2019 (including Cambridge Folk Festival, where they were nominated for the Christian Raphael Prize for new artists), the duo have been touring extensively in the UK, Europe and Canada — a trend that is set to continue in 2020.

The group is comprised of acoustic guitarist Robin Joel Sangster and fiddle/mandolin player Duncan Menzies.  "Cut It Down, Count The Rings" was recorded at Bear Creek Studio near Seattle, WA, USA with platinum-selling producer Ryan Hadlock (The Lumineers, Brandi Carlile), and has drawn comparisons with The Milk Carton Kids, Simon & Garfunkel, and the hugely popular O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack.  Variously described as “mighty impressive” (BBC Radio Wales), “beautiful… highly recommended” (BBC Radio Ulster) and “a joy to listen to” (Americana UK), the record was also selected by Folk Radio UK as one of their Albums of the Year 2019.

Meanwhile, writing for the duo’s second album is already well underway.  Several of the new songs have already become staples of their live set, including “Opal & The Bear”, for which they recently released a live video — a subtle yet forceful ballad that combines Copper Viper’s characteristic vocal harmonies and thought-provoking lyrical content with an expanded harmonic and instrumental palette.

Copper Viper will be performing at London’s renowned folk venue Green Note, together with English fingerstyle guitarist Karl Culley on Friday 28th February, presented by Roundtable Collective (tickets £12 adv., £15 on the door).
