EJ O´Reilly ´The Expressman´

EJ O´Reilly ´The Expressman´

With his bay mare and Colt 45, EJ O´Reilly takes us for an entertaining trot across the Old Wild West

EJ O’Reilly is a Folk Americana Singer/Songwriter based in London. Originally from the Mourne Mountains, Co. Down (Yes! the ones Don McLean sings about). His music is down-to-earth and honest, telling stories of love, loss, the countryside and the city, as well as a few comical ones for good measure. Influences are drawn from experiences and stories he comes across rather than other musicians, though he enjoys some of the classic folk singers such as Jackson C. Frank, James Taylor and Bob Dylan. Modern comparisons would perhaps include Willy Watson and Colter Wall.

O´Reilly studied Music Technology and Sonic Art at Queen’s Belfast Sonic Art Research Centre which has seen many standout acts pass through its doors. During his time there, he honed his craft, and now continues to do so on the London live scene. Previous Releases - ´Young O’Reilly´, ‘Australia´ and ‘Easy’ - received a number of glowing reviews. He is hoping to bring something truly brilliant and unique with his fourth release, ‘The Frontier Three.’ The narrative album explores mid 1800s America, when modernity pushed West and the foundation of the US was formed. The stories tell of the trouble and strife faced, with vocals hitting like a bullet, guitar riffs that bite like a rattlesnake and drumming that kicks like a mule. ‘The Frontier Three’ stems from a childhood spent watching way too much American television, books given to EJ by his grandfather and a fascination with the Wild West. The release date for the album will be in early 2020.

The first single from the album, ´The Expressman,’ tells of the the hazards faced by riders on The Pony Express, a mail service that ran between 1860 and 1861. The Pony Express cemented itself into American history due to the true grit showed by its riders required to travel from Missouri to California in no more than 10 days.
