Emma Martin - This Woman´s Hands - A Song for Midwifery

Emma Martin - This Woman´s Hands / International Day Of The Midwife

Emma is a singer songwriter living in Glasgow though originally from Dundee. She is known for her Folk roots, blended with a touch of Americana.  A lot of her new writing concentrates on Scottish Folk and her first old Scots song ´Kettle Bilers´ won the Hands up for Trad, Scots song writing competition in 2017.

This year marked her debut appearance in Celtic Connection as part of a group of songwriters performing and sharing stories around LGBT+ - Voices in Folk.  She is currently working on her first release: “This Woman’s Hands”, premiering on the 19th of April this year to raise funds and awareness for International day of the Midwife (Sunday 5th May), collaborating with the Scottish association Tree Of Life.

The song will focus on the importance of the midwifes while telling the importance of a figure as Jane Sharp, a midwife from the 17th Century and the first person who wrote about the art of midwifery. A bandcamp release will be made to gain funds for the Tree of Life association. Standing on a paper from the Journal Of Midwifery by Anna Bosanquet, Sharp´s idea was that midwifery belonged in the hands of women as they had a better instinct on what to do. She wished that more books could be in mother tongue so that more women could learn more techniques and save more lives.

The song will be performed by Emma on the 1st of May at the UWS Lankarshire Campus to celebrate International Day of The Midwife. This Woman´s Hands has been recorded by Megan Andrews and co-produced by her and Paul Mcgheechan.
