EP Review - Hangover Square: “Horizons“

EP Review - Hangover Square: “Horizons“

Hangover Square release their new EP "Horizons" this week in Bristol

Bristol based duo Hangover Square will be releasing their new EP on Saturday 8th April. In stark contrast to their heavily orchestrated and cinematic debut album, ´Painting With An Open Heart´, ´Horizons´ offers more stripped back, intimate arrangements. With rich and delicate vocal harmonies, there is a beautiful vulnerability to this EP, as the musicians ´invite you into their private world of fears and fantasies´.

The opening track History´s Tale has some intricate guitar playing, somewhat reminiscent of the likes of Nick Drake, and lead singer Victoria Bourne´s vocal lines soar sweetly over the arrangements. The hypnotic piano work on Sorrento also lulls the listener into a meditative state, as the song explores ´the idea that places can record emotions experienced there and hold them forever´.

Overall, a strong follow-up release to their already fantastic first album. The contrasts with their first release highlight their versatility as musicians. It shows skill and sensitivity in exploring new themes and developing their own sound.

The Launch party will be on Saturday 8th April 2023 at The Spielman Centre, Bristol. Surely not one to be missed!
