Green Note

Green Note

Whilst our listings are on-hold and everyone´s staying home we have decided to run articles featuring some of the venues, bands and promoters who have been with us since the beginning. These are people and organisations who have hosted many great folk events over the years, and we look forward to many more of their events in the future.

Our fourth feature is:

Green Note

Founded by two friends and passionate music lovers, Green Note opened its doors in the summer of 2005 and now has a reputation as one of London’s best spots for roots, world and acoustic music. This combined with a laid-back, intimate and friendly atmosphere made the venue a deserving winner of Time Out´s "London´s Venue of the Year" title in 2015. The awards keep coming: Winner “Camden Cultural Hotspot 2016” Love London Awards Time Out, Winner “Best Music Venue 2017” Camden Inspire Awards, Winner “Grassroots Award 2019” UK Americana Awards, AMA-UK

Located in Camden Town (less than 5 mins walk from Camden Town tube station) this independent venue normally hosts gigs every night ranging from folk and blues to roots, world, jazz, country, bluegrass and singer-songwriters. They have a fully-stocked bar and serve a selection of wines, beers and cocktails, organic teas, coffees and fresh juices, as well as a range of vegetarian bar snacks.

Although the doors to Green Note are currently closed, this has not deterred them from bringing you fantastic music! Starting on Friday 10th April and running every Wednesday and Friday throughout the month, "Virtually Green Note" is series of specially-curated, unique online shows. These shows, which will be streamed live to the Green Note website and on their Facebook and YouTube pages, will each feature three specially selected artists, and take an “in the round” format, where the artists take turns in playing songs. The shows will last between 60 and 75 minutes – and will be hosted by a member of Green Note staff.

Green Note are not selling tickets for these gigs, but, if you are able to, they would like to ask you to make a donation via the PayPal link on the page where you’re watching from. All the money raised for each show will be divided between the artists playing on that date. If you are in a position to, we would like to strongly encourage you to donate – musicians have been hit really hard by recent events, many of them having their upcoming gigs and tours cancelled, as well as one of their main sources of income (and artistic expression) having been taken away, almost overnight. Consequently many of them are struggling financially and would be incredibly grateful for the support of music-loving audiences during this time. The suggested donation is £10 per show, but the amount is open for you each to decide what feels do-able for you. If you don’t have a PayPal account, but would still like to donate, please email Green Note on mail@greennote.co.uk (If you work for the NHS or are a key worker, Green Note would like to say THANK YOU for what you are doing on behalf of all of us, and would like to invite you to enjoy any of their shows for free)
