The Circus Came and Left - Album Review

India Blue is a contemporary folk singer-songwriter performing what she defines as ‘Faerie folk’. Hailing from the Southeast of England she established herself as a live performer playing small eco and hippie festivals from 2015. This sound still resonates throughout her ethereal songs, drawing influence from nature and spirituality. I can imagine her music dreamily drifting over the Green Fields at Glastonbury Festival for sure!

‘The Circus Came and Left’ is India Blue’s first studio album and boasts an eclectic thirteen original tracks, self-accompanied by an impressive number of instruments including harp and piano. She is also supported by some talented local musicians. Her original vocal delivery really stands out; fresh, wild, delicate, and free, something akin to an unfettered Enya or Kate Bush.

Her expressive vocals float over a warm and meditative sonic backdrop, often provided by entrancing drones or wide-open piano chords. There is a careful innocence and sensitivity to the arrangements and production which makes the album an intimate listen, almost feeling like you are in the room as it’s performed.

A perfect album for a relaxing sunny afternoon in nature, I can see this album being appreciated amongst spiritual and hippie communities as well as the folk and festival scene.
