Jim Chorley ´Fly Swift Little Sparrow´- Single Review

Jim Chorley ´Fly Swift Little Sparrow´- Single Review

´Fly Swift Little Sparrow´ is folk singer Jim Chorley’s first single release of 2021 and certainly provides a promising start to the year.

Gentle arpeggiated acoustic guitar lines supported by reverb drenched electric guitar gives the track a soothing lullaby quality. The stripped back arrangement with nothing but acoustic guitar, sparse harmonica and electric guitar, is hypnotic and calming, allowing the listener to soak in the transients of the track.

Chorley’s vocals are rich, honest and velvety in tone, almost like a sober Tom Waits. His vocal timbre brings meaning and focus to each individual word and phrase and the lyrics are sweet and earnest, reminding me of English folk singers such as Chris Wood. The chorus provides a gentle nudge for us to all embrace the here and now, “for there may not be a tomorrow” which seems a grounded yet optimistic approach to the current times for sure!

Poetic, delicate and humble, “Fly Swift Little Sparrow” is a great listen and I look forward to hearing what else Jim has in store for us in 2021.
