Joshua Burnell & Frances Sladen to play The Harrison

Up-and-coming folk duo, Joshua Burnell & Frances Sladen to play The Harrison, London

Joshua Burnell & Frances Sladen will showcase brand new material, alongside tried and tested favourites, in an intimate one-off show in The Harrison, London on Saturday 4th April 2020.

Since releasing his album Songs from the Seasons in 2018, Burnell has garnered respect from across the folk-music scene. He has also quickly gained recognition and a loyal fanbase, building a strong rapport with his audiences.  For the past two years he has been working on a wealth of new music that he will share with fans old and new this spring.

Having grown up in both Scotland and France, Joshua was blessed with a colourful cultural upbringing. Singer-songwriter, Hammond organist and guitarist, his set includes quirky arrangements of traditional songs alongside modern folk ballads and Lou Reed-esque singalongs. His 2016 debut album Into the Green was praised not just for its display of technical musicianship but its effectiveness in multi-media storytelling.

Joshua is joined by his trusted accompanist; singer Frances Sladen. The two are quickly forging a strong reputation as a double act. Following a successful London show in January at which Julie Felix introduced Joshua & Frances as a ‘selected’ act to showcase, the pair are reprising the duo format.

From Essex, Frances Sladen grew up around traditional folk sessions and has taken influence from musical-theatre styles of singing. Since playing alongside Burnell, reviews have credited her crystalline voice as an integral part of the overall sound.

Joshua can’t wait to take his new material to London audiences, saying: “A lot of the set we’ll be playing in The Harrison is brand new material – both unreleased and unperformed. Audiences can expect a warm and welcoming show and hopefully a few laughs along the way too!”

“A highly original story, a highly original concept, highly original songs, beautiful artwork, and completely brilliant in every respect.” – Fatea Magazine

 “Beautiful.” – R2 Magazine

This isn’t about academic research, it’s about playing the music, which is what Joshua does exceptionally well.” – RnR Magazine (5*)
