Kasper Buch - New Single Review

Kasper Buch - New Single Review

"Searching For The Day" is the latest single to be released by Danish singer-songwriter Kasper Buch

Kasper grew up surrounded by folk and roots music, regularly attending shows at Tønder festival. He´s clearly developed a sympathetic ear for song writing in the folk idiom.

This a soft, under-stated track which begins with well-articulated finger-picked guitar accompanied by sparse piano chords. The production of the track is clean yet warm and there is a shimmering to the transient overtones. When the kick drum hits are introduced, in the second verse, it adds a steady and familiar heartbeat. The track is further developed by the introduction of rich male vocal harmonies in the chorus. The tone for the electric guitar solo is pleasantly drenched in reverb but, like the rest of the track, is restrained and not melodically searching.

Thematically, the song has a sonorous, dream-like quality as Kasper tells a tale of wistfully searching for his own place in the world, where he´s ´hoping for the day, living my way´.

Kasper´s voice is gentle and soothing and has an air of a chilled out Glen Hansard. It´s a sweet track which is well produced with subtle and tasteful arrangements and I´d recommend it to people who are fans of gentle acoustic folk pop such as Laura Marling and Johnny Flynn.

If I were forced to make a criticism, then perhaps a bit more grit and bite in the content and delivery would make it stand out more from the crowd but overall, "Searching For The Day" is a very enjoyable listen.
