Nick Wyke is musician, composer and tutor from North Devon.  Nick is a music industry professional with over 20 years´ experience.  His main field has been in playing traditional English Music, but his latest offerings draw from a wide field of acoustic styles.  He has played and recorded with Jim Moray, Jackie Oates, Jim Causley, The Angel Brothers and many more.  He performs as a duo with Becki Driscoll and is the fiddle player in Gadarene.

 

Nick’s new song was inspired by the sea shanty resurgence of early 2021 and he decided to write this post-apocalyptic answer.  Many shanties revolve around nature and natural products - fishing, cotton, whaling, sugar - and Nick tried to imagine a shanty written 100 years from now, when none of those natural commodities remain, if we carry on our descent into ecological craziness.

 

 

 

Nick has also recently released his Lockdown EP.  An eclectic mix of songs and tunes inspired by the UK lockdowns of 2020.  This is a record of a very strange year!  From comedy songs about life in lockdown, through heartfelt guitar instrumentals, to Americana-flavoured dance tunes, this EP has something for everyone.

 

 

The musical partnership of Nick Wyke & Becki Driscoll has its roots in the traditional music of South West England but explores a contemporary sound that draws on inspiration from across the globe. Since the initial lockdown in March 2020, Nick & Becki have been broadcasting their live Front Room Sessions on Facebook on a Wednesday evening at 9pm. These sessions are the highlight of many peoples week, giving them a much needed lift and enabling them to switch off from the stresses of life for a couple of hours.
