SAVE THE HARRISON Fundraiser Number 3

SAVE THE HARRISON Fundraiser Number 3

On 21st June, the third in the series of concerts organised by New Roots to raise money for the grassroots venue The Harrison, will feature performances from Jack Harris, Ned Roberts and Pearl Fish.

For the past 18 years The Harrison in King´s Cross has hosted some of the finest intimate folk and roots concerts in London. Shockingly they have recently received a court arbitration judgement ordering them to pay their landlord the full rent for the entire Covid period. This includes all the time that the venue was closed under Lockdown, coming to a total of £99,000.

Obviously, this is a devastating and incomprehensible judgement, which bankrupts the business and, as a Sole Trader, owner Paul Michelmore personally. To save The Harrison and everything Paul and his team have built over the past 18 years, there must be an appeal against the judgement, but this will cost up to £10k in legal fees. To help raise money for the appeal, promoter New Roots and a number of artists have come together to put on these very special gigs.

Wednesday 21st June 7.30pm Ned Roberts, Jack Harris, Pearl Fish

JACK HARRIS´s songs take a compassionate look at things both common and uncommon, and see them differently. They are literate, curious, often in character, and always intriguing. His current album, ´The Wide Afternoon´, produced by UK folk giant Gerry Diver (Sam Lee, Lisa Knapp, Tom Robinson), was released to universal press acclaim. Jack was a showcasing artist at the legendary South By Southwest Festival (SXSW) in Austin, Texas at aged 17, and was the youngest ever winner of the Kerrville Folk Festival´s New Folk Award in 2005 (previous winners include Gillian Welch, Devon Sproule and Anais Mitchell). He has been the recipient of the PRS ATOM award for new music creation, as well as an EFDSS creative bursary for songwriting.

´Jack Harris is a priest of song who holds himself to a rigorous, ancient code of beauty most of us have forgotten exists´ Anais Mitchell

NED ROBERTS´ releases have featured frequently on BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio Scotland, and have been championed by Lauren Laverne, Jo Whiley, Gideon Coe, and Huey Morgan. He´s received significant national press, notably from the Guardian and Uncut magazine, and has recorded live sessions for BBC Radio London and Bob Harris’ Radio 2 show. With extensive shows across Europe and America, live highlights include a tour with celebrated US songwriter Anais Mitchell, plus support slots for Joe Pug, Micah P. Hinson, The Delines and Sarabeth Tucek amongst others. He has released two critically acclaimed albums for the Aveline label (home to Anais Mitchell and Ani Di Franco), with both albums produced by renowned US producer Luther Russell (Noah & The Whale, Sarabeth Tucek).

Absolutely gorgeous stuff…one to really get excited about’ – Lauren Laverne, BBC 6 Music

A brilliant new discovery for New Roots, London singer-songwriter PEARL FISH brings her superbly written, beautifully delivered songs to The Harrison for this special fundraiser show, don’t miss her.

´An English folk sound that evokes the mood and feel of early Laura Marling, brushed with the North American spirit of Lambchop, Phoebe Bridgers and Bon Iver.....an emerging talent with a huge future ahead of her.´ Loire Magazine

The future of Folk and Honey-
Paul and The Harrison have been fundamental in setting up and maintaining Folk & Honey, as a place for musicians and venues to list their gigs and promote their work. If The Harrison doesn´t survive then we will lose Folk & Honey too.
