The Canteen in Bristol celebrates 10 years

The Canteen in Bristol celebrates 10 years

Ten Years of The Canteen

Ten years ago a handful of friends had an idea. To transform the ground floor of a derelict office building into a venue that offered great, affordable food, locally sourced drinks and free live music every night of the week. Not only did the love, sweat and tears transform the building, but this was also the beginning of the transformation of Stokes Croft.

Like with all the greats, we felt this rather awesome achievement deserved a week long celebration: 8th - 14th July.

Back in 2009, our mission was to create nutritious food that tastes great whilst having minimal impact on the environment. Ten years on; all our meat is locally sourced, our fruit and vegetables seasonal and our bread all fresh from our friends at Assembly Bakery using Bristish grown and milled flour.

Look out for a super special price roll back. For the whole week, our head chef is choosing a dish that will celebrate ten years by going back to its original 2009 price !

Load up your photos from the last Ten Years using the #10YRSCANTEEN to win some great prizes, including five £50 vouchers to spend behind the bar and look out for another incredible 100 pint extravaganza. Our monthly Sunday Night Quiz (14th July) will test your knowledge (and memory) of events from the last Ten Years. Bring your brain cells.

We are really excited to announce the arrival of The Canteen Photobooth in July too. Our friends at Fotomatic have built us a bespoke booth ready for all the fun. Grab your mates and make some faces. These are memories worth sharing.

We are really proud to be one of the only spaces in Bristol offering live, free music every day of the week and are happy to have hosted more than 4,000 bands over the years. We’ve got loads on during this week, see our website for full details. Highlights include:

Tues 9th - CalleJondo Flamenco Fresh, fiery and spellbinding performances from this Seville based troupe.

Thurs 11th - Samantha Lindo Canteen favourite, weaves poetry, spoken word and beautiful lyricism through her songs.

Fri 12th - Baila La Cumbia Up-beat Latin-meets-ska collective with members drawn from the ranks of some of Bristol´s most popular dance music acts.

“Really, Ten Years? At the dawn of a new decade I really hope that The Canteen will stay true to its values and be a space that is generous, inclusive and where ultimately people get to connect meaningfully with each other, whilst having a great time” Jamie Pike, Founder & Partner
