The Lemon & Paice Band at Tuned In London!

Acoustic Folk Country Roots Band Lemon & Paice Performing at Tuned In London on Thursday 14th December

Core duo singer-songwriters, Australian-born Neil Lemon and British-born Angie Paice, with their wonderfully complementary vocals, together with bassist Andrew Hodgson, write gorgeous roots-folk songs with a country twist and an international flavour. Joined by Hungarian violinist Peter Huszar and power percussionist, Roger Nunn, their performances exude warmth, drive and sensibility, each song telling a tale of love, life, travels…

The Lemon & Paice Band perform a mix of upbeat and slow-beat songs that have strong narratives. They have been described by Around Kent Folk as "Skilled songsmiths who can tell a tale with conviction with lyrics that can inspire the imagination”. With a new 2023 release under their belt, BREAK IN THE CLOUDS - already aired on radios from the Shetlands to London, The Lemon & Paice Band will be performing at Tuned. In London for the first time.

The church has a cafe offering hot and cold drinks and Finnish snacks. It is a short walk from Rotherhithe Station and 381, C10, 47, 188 and P12 bus stops.

BREAK IN THE CLOUDS is The Lemon & Paice Band´s new collection of folk-roots songs. It opens with the radio-friendly track ‘Full Circle’, a song of beating the odds and fighting back from being down, “You fell from grace/You know it’s true/Got kicked until you’re black and blue/The after-burner kicks in now/You’re gonna get there somehow”. ‘Full Circle’ is one of three songs on the CD penned by bassist and lyricist Andrew Hodgson which also includes the title track ‘Break In The Clouds’ and ‘Lyrical Baby.’ The band wrote many of these songs during the lockdown period. As Andrew says, “It’s a testament to the intensive songwriting and rehearsal that the band undertook during lockdown that the first performances in the studio ended up so clean.”

‘Lonely Angels’ is a sweet folk-pop song that tackles the subjects of loneliness and believing in oneself. It was written and performed by Angie Paice and has a lot of Angie’s characteristic warmth and heart as she sings out “Don’t be so sad babe/try to be glad for who you are….” As Angie says, “‘Lonely Angels’ is a love song about the power of love to heal. Often the friendship that lovers find can be so uplifting and strengthening. We all have so much to give but it often takes us finding that special friendship to let our light shine. I spent some time on the melody which is uplifting yet the issues are real to many folk, including me.”

The track ‘Every Day’ penned and performed majestically by salty singer Neil Lemon, was the first single released from BREAK IN THE CLOUDS and was met with a warm response on radios from the Shetlands to London. As Neil says, “’Every Day’ is a song about the things we have all been challenged with in the last few years: questionable political complexities and dishonesty and then again, it’s also about the power of love. I wonder if greater honesty in politics and love could help us carve an easier way through the challenges and turmoil, we find ourselves in ‘Every Day’….”

The title track ‘Break In The Clouds’ deserves mention. It opens with a soaring violin reminiscent of a cliff-top scene from Poldark. Its lyrics and groove have a life of their own. It is a powerful song with realism and optimism as one battles the stresses of life, “I’m just looking for a break in the clouds/looking for some better weather/You say it’s up ahead but I know/It won’t last forever.”

‘Chasing Fire’ is the closing epic song written and performed by Angie Paice. It is about nature, about love, about how we are all looking for that elusive something, we are all chasing our own fire. It was produced by Martin Smith and is an outstanding listening track on the project.

The BREAK IN THE CLOUDS EP was co-produced by former ELO bassist Martin Smith. Instrumentation on the project includes violin, bass, harmonica, acoustic and electric guitars, keyboards and strong percussion.
