The Misadventures of Jimmy Lee

The Misadventures of Jimmy Lee

Jimmy Lee is possibly the most famous Folk/Americana singer-songwriter who you have never heard of!

Jimmy Lee has written an incredible body of songs that could never have been written without living his life. And what a story it is! Words alone can’t do it justice.

"Jimmy Lee’s songs and life story come together in a show, with Jimmy, his guitar, wonderful songs and narrative linked to projected images that give you a personal insight into one of the most incredible life stories you are ever likely to hear….’There are great stories told in lyrics woven in beautiful melodies...

His songs leave a deep impression and tells a story which deserved a wide platform.  I’ve rarely experienced such a powerful engagement between singer, song, story and audience.

I’ve compared Jimmy’s writing to the work of Eric Bogle and you’d have a hard job to find a better song about the issue of PTSD  than Hard Man, written by Jimmy from personal experience of his father.

I’d urge you to see Jimmy’s show and guarantee that it will have a deep impact."

Pete Heywood, The Living Tradition

Review of Jimmy Lee & the Edge of Chaos Orchestra´s latest album - "The Runaway"....Jimmy Lee is like finding an English Johnny Cash hiding out in the back lanes of West Sussex. This might sound like a stretch until you hear his backstory. His has been a life every bit as tough and cinematic in its breadth. But Lee’s life and music – while deeply influenced by American country music – is also uniquely British.

Taken into care at the age of four from a home broken by poverty and World War II, Lee ran away to join the Navy at 14, and fought his way through several stretches of time inside, including at Corradina military prison on Malta. He later travelled to Ireland and the US.

What stands out on this second album released on the label attached to his music club, the Blue Coconut, is the raw emotional honesty. Lee is a man of his era, and the folk-country blend, sliding into a dreamy sax solo on ‘Sweet Mystery’, might sound dated to some, but he’s the real deal. Where sailor’s songs like ‘The Granuaile’ and Irish ballads like ‘Eileen’ could appear contrived elsewhere, in Lee’s hands they have depth. And in his most heartfelt statement, ‘Hard Man’, the autobiographical examination of his relationship with his father has a devastating, redemptive power...Nathaniel Handy

"Jimmy Lee has the total ease and assurance of a man who has clocked up many many hours behind the microphone, it shows and it makes a difference and I am very glad it came my way!"
Oxfordshire Folk Magazine - review Tom Bell-Richards

"Thisis an exceptional album, part concept, part balladry; it´s got songs you can really believe in!"
FATEA - review NK

"There’s something very compelling about Lee’s writing, The Runaway turns out to be one of those rare artistic ventures that really convinces with its integrity and uncompromising honesty"
NETRYTHMS - review David Kidman
