Wildwood Kin - “BEAUTY IN YOUR BROKENNESS“

Wildwood Kin - “BEAUTY IN YOUR BROKENNESS“

Wildwood Kin share a single from their upcoming album

Fleetwood Mac-like harmonies, hints of Fleet Foxes’ desolate, spectral acoustica, echoes of Ben Howard’s richly textured but ramshackle sparseness, a love of Mumfords-like propulsion and explosiveness.” – Sunday Times

There´s a drive, a crunching sense of abandon that litters every song they place their name against. Three musicians with a taste for ambition" – Clash

Wildwood Kin arrive…. fully formed and primed for the mainstream.” – The Guardian

Following another busy summer of festivals, including an incredible performance at Glastonbury, family acoustic-rock trio Wildwood Kin continue to build momentum for the release of their self-titled sophomore album on 4th October by sharing their second track from it - the beautiful ‘Beauty in Your Brokenness’.  Watch the lyric video for the single HERE.

Each track on the new album is built around a message that Wildwood Kin can get behind. The first track they previewed from ‘Wildwood Kin’ was the beautifully sombre, Fleetwood Mac-like ballad ‘Never Alone’, which was produced and co-written with Ed Harcourt. ‘Never Alone’ tackled a deeply personal subject and became a message to anyone feeling as isolated as Meg Loney’s brother, who sadly committed suicide. The stunning video that accompanied it complemented the song and lyrics perfectly, and was filmed in the West Pennine Moorlands – WATCH HERE.

The new single ‘Beauty in Your Brokenness’ is an intimate acoustic lament that talks about self-acceptance. The track was inspired by the Japanese art of ‘Kintsugi’ - the idea of something becoming more beautiful for having been damaged or broken.

Beth explains, “Have you heard about kintsugi? It is a Japanese art where they take broken pottery and put it back together using lacquer, dusted with gold and silver powder, to make a unique piece of art with intricate patterns only the brokenness creates. It is a reminder that our imperfections, mishaps and tragedies shape us and make us who we are.”

“‘Beauty In Your Brokenness’ is a message for us, too,” Emillie continues. “We’re not natural performers. We all think we’re not good enough, or confident enough to do this. But then people come to us after shows and say they liked our most awkward and weird moments, so it seems the mishaps make us relatable. Being who you are is the best approach to life.”

And that is the key to Wildwood Kin. They may have an unusual gift for harmony, and a way with evergreen acoustic rock melodies, but ultimately, they’re three normal, relatable young women finding their way in the world and dealing with the same challenges, triumphs and tragedies as the rest of us. That connection, acceptance and, ultimately, love is captured throughout this beautifully reflective second album. It is a tonic for our times.

Completed by Meg’s cousins, the Key sisters Emillie (guitar) and Beth (bouzouki), Wildwood Kin are a band of equals with each member contributing equally. Wildwood Kin made quite the impression with their 2017 debut album ‘Turning Tides’. It set them on course for an enthralling ride which led to majestic performances at Glastonbury, Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park and the Teenage Cancer Trust’s ‘A Beautiful Night Out’ at the Royal Albert Hall – plus extensive support from Radio 2 and BBC Introducing. A growing fanbase fell under their spell in the process, pushing them past the 20 million streams landmark.

Wildwood Kin continue playing festivals this summer before preparing for their mammoth 17-date headline tour this autumn. The tour kicks off in Norwich on 6th November at Waterfront Studio and includes a London date at Omeara on 11th November before concluding in Leeds on 4th December. The album will be released on CD, vinyl and digital/streaming via Silvertone Records/Sony, and is available to pre-order now, with ‘Never Alone’ provided as an instant download.
